The Roar of Silence

Monday, October 19th, 2009
As a child, Don G. Campbell’s life was filled with joyous sound, visuals, and stimulation. Everything was alive and magical to him, filled with rhythm. Then, a teacher told him to sit down, be quiet and learn. He wondered what she thought he had been doing for the past several years! This is a wonderful book that provides a fresh perspective on the importance of sound and music in the early stages of life.

The Power of Harmonics

Many of the sacred chants in varying traditions have high-frequency overtones which are stimulating to the brain. When the hours of chanting were removed from the daily regimen of the monks at a Benedictine monastery, they became listless and fatigued. It was originally determined that they were undernourished, due to their vegetarian diets but eating meat only exacerbated their problems. Once the chanting was reinstated, the therapeutic and charging effects allows the monks to easily return to their prior rigorous schedule of work and prayer.1
